Scanned image to searchable PDF

To convert scanned image to searchable PDF document, you can use the OCR application Image to PDF OCR Converter which has GUI and command line version. This article will also introduce these two ways to you one by one.

When you download the evaluation version of the GUI application, you need to install it on your computer by double clicking the setup file and following the installation wizard. After downloading the command line application, please unzip the zip file to some location of your computer, then the executable file img2pdf.exe which is called program in the conversion from scanned image to searchable PDF will be runnable instantly.

GUI version

Please open the application at first. You need to double click the application icon or click “Start”—“All Programs”—“Image2PDF OCR v3.2”—“Image2PDF OCR v3.2” to open the application. Then the main window of it will come out on your screen. Please see it in Figure 1. You need to click “Add File (s)” button or click “File (F)”—“Add files” to open file picker window which allows you to search for image file and add it into the application. When you click the file in file list, you can see its preview in preview frame.

Now please click “Settings” button to open the dialog box “PDF E-Book Maker OCR-Version” and click “OCR” tab in the the tab control. You need to check “Use OCR” option and then click “OK” button. Right click the converted file in file list and choose the option “Convert selected 1 file into one pdf file” in popup floating item and save scanned image to searchable PDF document in “Save as” dialog box. Then the conversion will be done.

CMD version

You need to open MS-DOS interface for inputting the command line. Just use the shortcut key “Window”+ “R” combination to open “Run” dialog box in which you need to input “cmd” in “Open” combo box and click “OK” button. Then please input the command line into MS-DOS interface. You can follow the following command line usage to write your command line:

img2pdf [options] <-o output> <images>

Like the following command line example, you can realize several functions to the target file by adding different options in the command line:

img2pdf –x 1 –t article –r 300 –o C:\output.pdf C:\test.tif

In the command line,

img2pdf stands for the called program.

–x 1 is to create target file as searchable PDF document.

–t article to set PDF article.

–r 300 set resolution for created PDF document.

–o C:\output.pdf stands for the path of target file.

C:\test.tif is the path of source file.

Please click “Enter” button on your computer and the conversion from scanned image to searchable PDF will run. Please see the procedure in MS-DOS interface in Figure 2.

  1. Why my image file can not be converted? I followed the steps you showed above. Nothing has been converted in the PDF file。 And some of the converted PDF file can not be selected, could you please tell me why?

      1. Thanks for your reply. I have found the reason. As my image file contains non-standard characters.
