JBIG2 Image Compression Programming Toolkit

I have a license for Advanced PDF Tools Command Line - Server License.

Purchased last year.

I've been working with the pdfcompress.exe that is in the folder.

Question - Can I compress with JBIG2 Lossy?

Thanks,

Advanced PDF Tools Command Line hasn't JBIG2 compression yet, however, our VeryDOC PDF Compressor Command Line does support JBIG2 Lossy Compression, you may download it from following web page to try,

http://www.verydoc.com/pdfcompressor.html
http://www.verydoc.com/url/pdfcompressor.zip

after you download it, you can run following command line to compress monochrome image streams with JBIG2 arithmetic easily,

pdfcompressor.exe -jbig2 C:\in.pdf C:\out.pdf

Please look at more compression options from following web page,

JBIG2 is an image compression standard for bi-level images, developed by the Joint Bi-level Image Experts Group. It is suitable for both lossless and lossy compression.

Is JBIG2 compression lossy? Can the lossy mode of JBIG2 be configured to prevent the loss of textual information in bitonal document images?

It is recently reported that certain implementations of JBIG2 compression will lead to substitution of text characters due to an overly aggressive pattern-matching algorithm and lack of refinement data (to fix substitution errors).  Is JBIG2 unsuitable, or can it be modified / configured to be useful without the fear of loss of information?

JBIG2 can be used in both lossless and lossy modes.

In any non-defective implementation, there shouldn't be any loss of fidelity when used in lossless mode, and so errors should not be seen when JBIG2 is used this way.

JBIG2 has some features designed to greatly improve compression of scanned text, but these features cause it to work differently than much of the compression people are used to. For example, if JBIG2 improperly codes the bitmap of a given character, the resulting (erroneous) bitmap, might not show the normal signs we associate with loss of fidelity.

The JBIG2 SDK is a toolkit for application developers.

This software development kit allows you to compress and decompress black-and-white documents and content. With its increased compression ratio, this binary image compression process is a modern alternative to the G4 process used by fax machines.

JBIG2 is an easy-to-integrate, powerful implementation of ISO/IEC standard 14492. The JBIG2 standard was developed by the Joint Bi-level Image Experts Group (JBIG) for efficient lossless and lossy compression of black-and-white content. By using and matching against character dictionaries, JBIG2 allows for very efficient encoding when working with documents with recurring characters. This makes JBIG2 the perfect compression tool for text documents. JBIG2 was developed for embedding within existing popular file formats such as PDF and JPM.

The VeryPDF JBIG2 SDK permits both lossless and lossy compression, meaning it can be customized to meet your exact quality and file size needs. Lossless compression is recommended for sensitive documents.

VeryPDF offers add-on solutions for document compression and optimization as part of its partner solutions. These solutions are easy to integrate into existing processes and increase user productivity thanks to faster display and processing times. Smaller files and faster data transfer mean that storage and bandwidth requirements are also reduced.

We’ve developed our toolkits for a wide range of interfaces and platforms, giving developers the freedom and flexibility they need to work in their preferred environment and bring applications to market quicker.
