Convert image to searchable PDF and add PDF bookmarks

The PDF bookmarks can help reader read PDF document more easily and intuitively. In the conversion from image to searchable PDF document, you are also able to add PDF bookmarks for the target file if you choose the application VeryPDF Image to PDF OCR Converter which is a GUI program or Image to PDF OCR Converter Command Line which is a command line program.

For using these two kinds of applications, please download them at https://www.verypdf.com/app/image-to-pdf-ocr-converter/index.html. The GUI program needs to be installed on your computer and the command line application just needs to be extracted from the ZIP file.

When using the GUI program, you need to open the application at first. By double clicking the application on you desktop, you can open it anytime and then you will see the main interface of the application. The next thing you need to do is to add image file into the program.

You can click “File (F)” button in menu bar to open the dropdown list and click “Add files” option to open file picker window from which you can choose the image file you need and click “Open” button to add it into the interface. When the file appears in file list, you are able to preview it in preview frame by clicking it in file list. If you want to remove this file from the file list, please right click it and click “Delete Selected Item” option in floating item.

Now please click “Setting” button or click “File (F)”—“Image2PDF Setting” to open “PDF E-Book Maker-OCR Version” dialog box in which you have two tasks to do: 1. Click “Bookmarks” tab and check “Use Bookmarks” option. Then choose any one of the bookmarks format from three supported options. 2. Click “OCR” tab to check “Use OCR” option for creating searchable PDF document. Then please click “OK” button. You can see these two tabs in Figure 1 and Figure 2.

For saving the target file and run the conversion from image to searchable PDF document, you need to right click the file in file list and choose “convert selected 1 file into pdf file” option to open “Save as” dialog box in which you can specify the output location and edit the target file name.

When using the command line program, please extract the ZIP file to your computer and then the application Image to PDF OCR Converter Command Line will be available. The called program in the conversion is the executable file img2pdf.exe in extracted package.

For the application is a MS-DOS oriented application, if you want to call it, you need to open MS-DOS interface. Please click “Start”—“Run” to open “Run” dialog box. Then input “cmd” or “CMD” in “Open” combo box and click “OK” button.

Then please input the command line into MS-DOS interface. You can refer to the following command line template:

img2pdf [options] <-o output> <images>

The following example is the application to the template:

img2pdf –x 1 –b 0 –o E:\B.pdf E:\A.tif

In the command line, the options “-x 1” stands for creating searchable PDF document. “-b 0” is to specify first number in bookmarks.

There are other commands to set PDF bookmarks:

-b -1          : don't use bookmark
-b  -2          : read bookmarks from bookmark.ini file
-b  -3          : use the filenames as bookmarks
-b  -4          : use the filenames as bookmarks, one bookmark at the first page of each tif
