How to use OCR tools when convert PDF to Office?

This article gives some tips on using the OCR tools of VeryPDF Table Extractor OCR to convert PDF to Office. The useful OCR tools make it possible to convert  unsearchable text in scanned PDF files or images into editable Excel or Word files.

After launching VeryPDF Table Extractor OCR, please input a PDF file. Then, all the buttons on the tool bar at the top of the main interface will be initiated. You can click image and then drag a rectangle on any PDF page displayed on the main interface to select the area of text you want to convert from PDF to Office. Then, choose chose one of he following ways to convert PDF to Office, depending on different types of input files:

  • For editable PDF—You only need to select the area of the text and then the result text will be displayed in the list box at the bottom of the main interface. 
  • For scanned PDF with high quality—You click the button  image, and then you can view the result text in the list box instantly.
  • For poor scanned PDF—Poor scanned PDF refers to PDF files that have speckles on the background, color background under the text, skewed text on pages, etc. If you have such a PDF to convert, you can use the advanced OCR tools. See the down arrow beside the OCR button image ?  You can click this arrow to open the Advanced Option dialog box as illustrated below:

{Tips} Once you enable the OCR button, which would look like this image  under Win 7 or Mac and  image under XP,  you can instantly view the effect of OCR on the main interface. Any slight change you make with the advanced OCR tools and the size of the rectangle you drawn to specify the text will be reflected in the OCR result that is displayed on the main interface. For instance, if you drag the button on the threshold slider to change the threshold of the input file, the software will OCR again and show another result of text.

If you just want to set all the options before view the OCR result, you can disable OCR. When the OCR button looks like image, you can draw rectangles and lines, set advanced OCR options. After setting, don’t forget to click OCR to enable it.
